The Creative Pixie

Yesterday I had had enough of my ever decreasing yarn supply so I jumped in the car and took myself off to the wool shop. There was so much to choose from but in the end I decided I needed lots of different colours for this square-a-day project so I got 15 balls of 100g yarn for £18! Yes you read it correctly, that’s £1.20 a ball – bargain of the year!

My ever loving Husband didn’t really raise an eyebrow when I came home with bags of yarn – maybe it’s cause my hobby is a lot cheaper than his when it comes to buying equipment (his is photography!)

So on to my project; below are the next two squares which are quite different to anything I’ve done before.

Day 3: Danish square

I think out of the squares I’ve done so far this has to be the prettiest. It’s also a lot easier to make than it looks. Rounds 1-5 rounds are made up with double crochet (UK) and rounds 6-11 combine dc and tr.

Day 4: Bobble diamond

Once I got the hand of the bobbles, this design was very easy to do. I don’t know if you can see the design well enough but it consists of a background of dc onto which there are 13 bobbles (in a 1, 3, 5, 3, 1 pattern).

A bobble is a very effective piece of crochet and once mastered and with a bit of creativity you could crochet practically anything with a simple shape. Hhumm… I’m thinking that this could be used to crochet squares with alphabet letters or numbers onto – ideal for a childrens blanket (another project for the future).
